The online chess tournament dedicated to the 9th anniversary of Baku Higher Oil School has ended.
40 players took part in the tournament, which was held via the platform lichess.org from December 18 to 28, 2020.
During the finals, which went on in a tense atmosphere, Mamedli Anar won a convincing victory over his rival Shafizade Kanan and became the winner of the chess tournament.
Kazymly Gahraman took the 3rd place in the tournament. He won a bronze medal, beating Niftaliyev Shahin.
The final matches of the tournament were livestreamed via the Zoom platform and sportscasted by Abdulla Gadimbayli - 2-time champion of Europe, 4-time champion of Azerbaijan, winner of the World Championship, gold medalist of Al-Ain International Championship, men’s champion of Azerbaijan, who was awarded the title of International Master (IM) in 2014 and has an ELO rating of 2,470.
At the end of the tournament, the International Chess Master Abdulla Gadimbayli answered students’ questions and expressed deep gratitude to the leadership and staff of Baku Higher Oil School for the organization of a chees tournament at this difficult time.
The winners of the competition will be awarded certificates and prizes.
