Laboratory of proccess automation

Baku Higher Oil School which was established as a public higher educational institution on 29 November 2011 is responsible for specialist training in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Information Security and Process Automation Engineering. The purpose of the Process Automation Engineering faculty is to prepare future engineers who will be experts in designing, implementation, and monitoring of control systems; creating, developing and managing of systems such as factory automation, process automation as well as building and home automation to make the systems work by themselves or require a minimum number of personnel. Graduates of BHOS can work for both government and private sector entities such as industrial production, companies that create (ABB, Emerson, Avandsis Group, Schneider Electric, Rockwell Automation, NOC&A, etc.)  and use automation systems (SOCAR, BP, and other industry areas such as paper industry, automotive industry or food and agricultural industry).

These achievements are result of the active teaching methods and educational program taught in BHOS: Lecture & in-class activities, group work, assignment (homework), project work, seminar, internship, technical visit, web-based learning, thesis work, report writing and especially laboratories. Several courses are required laboratories which are carried on software applications such as MATLAB, SAP, PROTEUS, MULTISM, Automation Studio, WinCC Tia Portal, Aspen Hysys and etc. installed on computers of laboratory rooms. Other subjects have their laboratory rooms which are provided different companies.

There is a laboratory room dealing with electrical things called “Electrical Appliances” room. The subjects such as Engineering Mechanics, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Measurements, Electrical Materials and Devices, Digital Electronics and Analog Electronics are held on that laboratory room:

Room contains multi-functional, compact power supply plus function generator and three-phase supply, plug-in system, oscilloscopes, multi-meter and other elements. All equipment is a product of Lucas-Nuelle technical-industrial education and training company and laboratory is designed under ELOTRAIN courses. Students do their laboratory task under the instruction of teacher, build the electrical circuits with plug-in components, supply source via multi-functional power supply, do their measurement with multi-meter and observe the result by means of oscilloscope. As a result, they apply the knowledge they have learned in experiments and accomplish their exercises:

The Microprocessor course is taught to students with laboratory tasks on both software and hardware devices. The equipment called EasyPIC v7 made in Germany is an application and full-feature development board for learning PIC Microcontroller technology without the need for additional hardware and software. Students apply their knowledge about microcontrollers & microprocessors, its fundamentals, programming skills which are obtained during lectures on physical system in laboratory work. They build applications with the help of powerful software support, and languages such as Basic, Pascal or C programming languages via Compiler:

The students study the fundamental concepts of programmable logic controllers, principles of operation, programming languages in course  called Programmable Logic Controller and then, they independently work with controller which is practical learning tool. The tasks given by teacher are programmed on software application called SIMATIC and download to the SIMATIC S7-300 universal controller:

The knowledge about industrial communication networks, network models, protocols and etc. obtained in Industrial Computer Network course is implemented in COM3LAB laboratory which provides electrical engineering and electronics in a single source. COM3LAB consists of Master Unit and various courses – a course includes an experiment board and learning software which communicate with one another. It contains all necessary measuring instruments and power supplies:

The Process Control course teaches the student fundamental principles of process control, control loops, controller algorithm and applications and properties of different type of controls. In order to achieve understanding of the subject, students use the laboratory room which organized by EMERSON company. In room “Emerson training – educational centre”, process rig is installed with two tanks, two motors, several transmitters such as level, pressure, flow and other elements. Students not only control the given process wireless, but also try to optimize with several control methods:

The Automaton of Technological processes course is learned practically in the laboratory room designed by Avandsis group which its controller is equipped by Schneider Electric company. The brand of the company called Triconex supplies the products such as controller panel with power supply, CPU, Digital, Analogue Input / Outputs, communication modules and services for safety, and critical control. Avandsis group supplies the devices such as pump, tank, drum, several field devices, transmitters, gas & fire detectors, alarm elements and so on. Laboratory works are related to process control and automation and mainly to train the learner with an industrial safety-shutdown technology. Moreover, students use TriStation application software to work with hardware parts:

Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition course aims to introduce students to the basic modern approaches, methods and solutions for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, teaches fundamental principles of modern SCADA systems, SCADA hardware, SCADA systems software and protocols, and other specifications. Learners obtain the knowledge about SCADA systems by means of 800xA Distributed Control system organized by ABB company. The room contains main desk known as the Extended Operator Workplace and three individual operator consoles with dual monitors; and process rig installed with smart instrumentations and electrical equipment such as temperature, pressure, flow measuring devices. The whole system gives opportunity to students to get familiar with the aspects of the Distributed Control system, functions of the software and hardware parts, develop ability of work with complete techniques and so on:
