Baku Higher Oil School hosts international conference on sustainable development and HSE

The Baku Higher Oil School of SOCAR (BHOS) hosted an international conference on the topic “Process safety for sustainable development and improving the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) culture”, organized jointly by SOCAR Downstream and the Italian company ICARO.

The conference was attended by heads of various departments of SOCAR, representatives of government agencies, employees and students of universities.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov expressed satisfaction that Baku Higher Oil School is hosting an event where specialists in industrial safety, occupational safety and environmental protection will exchange best practices and innovative solutions in the energy sector. Touching on the importance of occupational health and safety education, the rector said that this conference is useful for students in terms of acquiring new knowledge and increasing their interest in this area.

Advisor to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Azerbaijan Marvin Seniga spoke about the development of cooperation between the two countries. He stressed the importance of this conference organized jointly by Italian and Azerbaijani companies, noting that this conference dedicated to the topical issues is another contribution to strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov and Deputy Head of State Agency for Industrial Safety and Mining Control Ismail Nasirov spoke about the work done in the field of safety, labor and environmental protection by the agencies they represented. They also informed the audience about government programs, priorities and future goals related to this area.

General Director of SOCAR Downstream Emil Alkhasli informed the conference participants about the Operational Excellence Program and its goals, noting that HSE and technological safety are one of SOCAR's core values and the main driving force towards operational excellence.

ICARO Managing Director Siliano Stanganini, representatives of SOCAR, ICARO and the University of Genoa made presentations on the topics: sustainable development, technological safety management system, risk assessment, emergency management in industrial areas, etc.

The conference continued with roundtable discussions.
