Baku Higher Oil School hosts International Scientific Conference ‘Towards Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Engineering’
Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) hosted the 7th International Scientific Conference of Students and Young Researchers "Towards Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Engineering" dedicated to the 103rd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
Speaking at the opening of the event, BHOS Rector Elmar Gasimov noted that interest in the conference, which aims to stimulate the scientific activity of students and young researchers and create conditions for their participation in scientific discussions, is growing every year.
“This year’s conference brings together representatives of higher education institutions from nine countries: Turkey, Uzbekistan, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, China, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and Russia, as well as students and researchers from 16 universities and research institutes in Azerbaijan. Chemical engineering is a national scientific field in Azerbaijan. Our country has historically nurtured world-class scientists in this field, and this tradition is currently being successfully continued at BHOS. Graduates of the Chemical Engineering specialty of Baku Higher Oil School have achieved significant success in both research and industrial fields.”
Head of the Chemical Engineering Department of Baku Higher Oil School Rima Guliyeva provided information about the conference. She said that, in total, 256 applications for participation in the conference were submitted by young researchers, 46 of which came from abroad. The Department Head also added that students and young researchers from BHOS submitted 56 abstracts to the scientific conference.
Speaking at the event, Director General of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes named after Academician Yusif Mammadaliyev of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Chemistry, Academician Vagif Abbasov noted that the international conference held at BHOS is an important event aimed at increasing the interest of talented Azerbaijani youth in chemical science, as well as nurturing them as highly qualified scientists and specialists.
In his remarks, Director of SOCAR Polymer Fuad Ahmadov noted that almost all employees working at the company are local specialists. He especially lauded the significant contribution of BHOS to the training of professional personnel.
Acting Director of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Academician Irada Huseynova noted that the Scientific Conference “Towards Sustainable Chemistry and Chemical Engineering” serves as an important platform for young researchers.
Acting Director of the Institute of Chemistry of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Afsun Sujayev emphasized that such international conferences provide young people with a unique opportunity to expand their knowledge through participation in scientific discussions.
Following the speeches, Sabina Gasimova, a fourth-year student at the Chemical Engineering Department of BHOS, gave a presentation on "Pectin-Based Hydrogel Obtained from Citrus Peel and Used to Purify Wastewater from Heavy Metals and Dyes."
After the conclusion of the opening ceremony of the international scientific conference, the participants viewed poster presentations.
The conference continued its work in the sections “Advanced Materials for a Sustainable Future and Innovative Solutions for Environmental Restoration” and “Transforming Waste into Circular Value.”
